Caylah Batt  APD & AN

Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist

Hi, I’m Caylah, an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist who loves food and helping others. Before joining the Dietwise team, I worked in Community Paediatrics with a focus on fussy eating and infant and children’s nutrition. I’ve also worked in Public Health where I delivered nutrition education programs to improve cooking skills and food literacy, requiring practical hands-on skills to translate the science of nutrition into food on the table. My work in private practice and hospitals has involved supporting people living with diabetes, chronic disease, gut issues, cancer, and more.

I am passionate about helping others have a positive relationship with food and their bodies, which is why I practice Health At Every Size (HAES®) and use the Non-Diet Approach in my work. I also have a strong interest in disordered eating, eating disorders, the Low FODMAP Diet for IBS and women’s nutrition such as fertility, PCOS, endometriosis and pregnancy.

Growing up on a farm, I’ve always loved the connection to nature and the land, with food and joyful movement being at the centre of this. I love what I do and am excited to work alongside you to help you achieve your nutrition goals and in a way that works for you.

Mary Casotti

Creative Arts Therapist, CReatE

create_arts therapy.png

CReatE offers a holistic, person-centred, non-judgemental approach to eating disorder recovery using a trauma informed somatic framework and the expressive arts as a gateway to healing. The expressive arts are integrated through movement, sound, image making, creative writing, play, storytelling and rituals encouraging curiosity, creativity and the expression of emotions.

CReatE offers a safe space to help create a bridge from isolation and distorted thinking patterns to a connection with others and a reconnection with the authentic self.

Expressive Arts Therapy can be an exceptionally good fit for addressing eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, and body image. The more we intellectualize through talk, often the more the split between our thoughts and feelings widens.  When we shift to a more “right brain,” creative approach and engage in art, movement, drama, etc. the door opens to shift from explaining feelings to actually feeling them.  In that moment there is a tangible body experience of how feelings affect us, and a safe place to explore ways to manage those feelings.

The quest for perfection and control are feelings often shared by people with an eating disorder or body dissatisfaction.  Trying to live up to an unattainable ideal of beauty, trying to please others, and judging oneself primarily based on physical appearance are persistent driving forces that lead to disordered eating.  But, because the primary focus of Creative Arts Therapy is on the process of creation and NOT the final product, the goal is to learn how to appreciate who we are in the moment, explore reasons for our behaviours, and establish new barometers for self-acceptance.

We also work collaboratively with other health professionals outside our clinic as required such as Psychiatrists, Paediatricians, Credentialed Diabetes Educators, Gastroenterologists, Endocrinologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Registered Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Trauma Sensitive Yoga Instructors, Exercise Physiologists, Breathwork Practitioners, Music Therapists, Support Workers, Case Managers and Dentists. Our Dietitians prioritise timely ongoing open communication with all team members to ensure care is coordinated and goals of care are aligned.

The APD credential is a public guarantee of nutrition and dietetic expertise. All our Dietitians team at Dietwise have obtained the APD credential giving you the confidence that we have the highest qualifications in Australia providing expert, safe, ethical and evidence-based care.
